Off-Road Motor Cycles

Off-Road Motor Cycles or Bikes are designed and specialized for specific functions and are available in different types. Generally off-road motor cycles are some what different in features as compared to road going motor cycles. Typical features of off-road motor cycles are.

• Light weight, small engines
• Long suspension travel and high ground clearance
• Simple, rugged construction with little bodywork and no fairing
• Large wheels with knobby tires, often clamped to the rim with rim-locks

Off Road Motor Cycle

Off-road motor cycles are specialty motor cycles considered for the following:

• Motocross - A race over jumps - Thus these machines have small fuel capacities, extensive suspension travel. Engines can be two or four stroke, typical capacities 125 cc to 500 cc.
• Enduro - A long distance competition, through forests, etc. Similar to motocross machines but with the bare minimum of equipment for road legality and additional fuel.
• Rallies - long distance racing, typically through deserts for long distances. Capacities tend to be larger, around 450 cc to 660 cc (two or four stroke).
• Trials - An extremely specialized form of competition focused on balancing skills and precision rather than speed. Small (125 cc to 300 cc) engines, often two strokes being used. Fuel is kept to a minimum so range is very limited.
• Track Racing - High speed oval racing, typically with no brakes, no suspension, at most two gears, fuelled by methanol (not road legal machines).
